Learning about Indigenous culture and heritage is essential for every young Australian. When our students’ eyes are opened to the 65,000-year-old history and ancestral connections of Australia’s traditional owners, their ability to respect people with different backgrounds is expanded, their understanding of Australian history is strengthened, and our country’s potential to advance reconciliation is enlarged significantly.

For these reasons and more, Grow Hope is committed to expanding access to cultural education for schools requiring support. We know and understand that not every school in Victoria has the resources to connect their students with cultural learning experiences, which is why our Foundation can help with funding.

ABOUT WANYARA’S INCURSIONS

Wanyara brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to schools and workplaces. The company’s young and energetic Indigenous presenters share games, art, dance, language, history, ceremonies, songs and stories in hundreds of Victorian classrooms each year. Wanyara’s inspiring and impactful incursions provide an authentic and engaging voice for First Nations peoples to Australia’s future movers and shakers.

Wanyara means ‘active’ in Yorta Yorta language, spoken by Aboriginal groups located at the junction of the Goulburn and Murray Rivers in northeast Victoria. In Grow Hope’s partnership with Wanyara, we are actively building change as we transform the way Australia sees Indigenous peoples and the future of our country.

ARE YOU LOOKING TO HOST A WANYARA INCURSION AT YOUR SCHOOL?

The Classrooms of Culture Fund is for schools, youth centres, and other educational institutions who require funding support to host a Wanyara incursion. The Fund exists to support cultural incursions in these spaces to ensure that no student misses out on the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Through the Fund, Grow Hope can potentially cover part of the cost for a Wanyara incursion at your school or youth centre. There is an application process and the procedure for seeking funding is fully explained below.

HOW THE CLASSROOMS OF CULTURE FUND WORKS

  1. If you are a school or youth centre interested in hosting a Wanyara incursion, submit a booking request on the Wanyara website.

  2. Wanyara will provide a quote for the requested incursion.

  3. If you don’t have budget to cover the entire cost of the incursion, apply for funding from Grow Hope’s Classrooms of Culture Fund (see button below).

  4. The application will be reviewed by the Grow Hope team and assessed according to the need and funding requirements (read more about how we assess applications here). Please allow up to three weeks for this to occur.

  5. We will inform you of the outcome of your application as soon as possible.

IF THE APPLICATION IS SUCCESSFUL…

Wanyara will contact you to finalise the incursion booking and set a date. The incursion will be delivered as planned and Wanyara will invoice the school for its portion of the costs.
